How it goes on now
Now it would be advantageous if you watch the first video to get an idea of what to expect. In the first video "Buildup Techniques" I explain the 2 most common buildup techniques (with strands). Also in this video I try to explain why the clay warps and possibly cracks. Also you could provide or organize the needed material and tools as suggested. Links to some suppliers can be found below.
What I would like to say about the suitable clay: Basically, it can be clay that you usually work with. I recommend a clay with relatively much fireclay (about 40 percent) and with a grain size that is not too coarse. You have to keep in mind that the layers will be chipped in with a metal sheet or pierced with the thinly ground modeling wood. There it is an advantage if the grain size is only about 0.5 mm to 1 mm. I use a Spanish stoneware clay from the company SIO2. In Switzerland it is available from Michel and Bodmer and Danilo Güller. In the video I use Gech 30 (but it has a grain size of 1.5 mm). As you can see in the video, this also works. I fire my objects mostly above 1300 degrees and in a gas kiln. This clay is very good for that. I never need glazes for my objects. Gech is not suitable for that. (Gech 30 has an iron content of 7%, which of course distorts the glaze). I will come back to the surfaces later.

You will find instructions and tips as sketches and descriptions as PDF files that you can download. To start with, all you have to do is go to a carpenter's or DIY store and get three boards cut to size which you can then glue together with wood glue.
There is a more comfortable version and a simpler version. So you can choose which template suits you best, depending on your possibilities.
